Rhythm and blues to
rattle the bones, sweet soul music to set you free, and a healthy dose of Americana. Grin wider, groove harder, and stay shady. So goes the mantra of the Shady Street Show Band.
The ringleader of
this circus is Ryan Gregg, a true Master of Ceremonies with a booming voice and a serious command of the keys. After years of working with other bands as a hired gun, Ryan decided to take a stab at
starting his own project. Already a prominent figure in the Jersey Shore music scene, it was not hard for him to pull together some of the best players the Shore had to offer. Ryan began working with
drummer AJ Dumm and bassist Russ Eia on another project, soon after deciding to create a new band that pulled inspiration from music they all loved and grew up listening to, including The Band, Ray
Charles, Stevie Wonder, the Rolling Stones, and many more.
After adding longtime
friend Zac Silva into the mix, and eventually picking up guitarist and vocalist Zack Loria along the way, the band began to hone a sound that was unique yet drew from a deep well of American music.
Shady Street often also incorporates a full horn section, and has been known to bring up a slew of friends and guests to come join in on the gigs, turning most their shows into full blown
In the past couple of
years, the band has risen to become one of the area's top shows to see. The band has also worked with a number of other bands in the area, inlcuding doing a split EP with their good friends from the
punk band Hot Blood and mega shows with the Mad Feather Group where both bands join on stage for a powerhouse set. Among their achievements include winning an Asbury Park Music Award for best
Soul/Blues band as well as a stint as the house band for the Stone Pony, one of New Jersey's premier music venues. Their first EP, An Almighty Noise, was released in July, 2013. They are currently
working on their first full length record.
